Biomedical researchers from Washington University St. Louis will share their journeys from research concepts to commercial products for their cutting-edge optical technologies for medical diagnosis.
Lan Yang’s high-resolution, high-speed lightwave technology has resulted in an advanced diagnostic tool start-up. Chao Zhou’s imaging technology produces a 10-fold speed-up in high-definition 3D imaging of the human retina compared to current commercial technology.
Yan Lang, PhD
Yan Lang, PhD is a fellow of the Optical Society and her research interests include fabrication, characterization and fundamental understanding of advanced nano/micro-photonic devices with outstanding optical properties or novel features for unconventional control of light flow.
Chao Zhou, PhD
Chao Zhou, PhD research interests are in optical coherence tomography, a growing technology used to perform high-resolution cross-sectional imaging using light. He has multiple grants funded by the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, and other federal and private sources. He holds multiple U.S. and international patents for his inventions, and has published dozens of articles in peer-reviewed journals as well as several book chapters. He is an Editorial Board Member for Communications Biology, and associate editor for IEEE Photonics Journal, Journal of Biomedical Optics and Medical Physics.
